What War On Women? Texas GOP Compares Rape Kits to Abortion
Having just finished classes to be a Volunteer Hospital Advocate for Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Survivors, I learned about the rape kit in way more detail than I ever wanted to know. IMHO, comparing it to abortion is beyond bad taste, it’s malicious.
One’s body is treated as a crime scene. Every part of her body is scrutinized, and possibly scraped and swabbed. It takes an incredibly brave women to endure a 2-3 hour or more procedure after having such a crime committed against her. From the time the survivor enters the hospital to the time the Rape Kit is completed, she/he cannot eat, drink, use the rest room or receive pain meds. The person administering the kit must remain objective and professional.
Add to that that many emergency rooms do not have staff trained in Sexual Assault or Rape Kit procedures. The survivor is in a Trauma Crisis situation and may nor many have an Advocate there to help them thru the process.
The system is set-up to aid Law Enforcement, not to help the Survivor.

Ux2: “In the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out”
byBrainwrapFollow
That’s apparently a direct quote from Texas State Representative Jodie Laubenberg.
Take a wild fucking guess which party she belongs to.
No details beyond that at the moment; I don’t have a specific source yet, will add one when I can. I’m sure it’ll be all over the news by the morning, and I’ll be sure to add it to the Chart tomorrow, but I wanted to at least get it on the record this evening.
Only surprise: The fact that a woman could say something so utterly stupid and revolting about this particular topic (then again, there was Sharon Angle and her “lemons out of lemonade” comment…)
